Springfield Hospital Celebrating 105!
In today’s fast-paced world, we have all seen businesses come and go. But this year, we are pleased to be celebrating Springfield Hospital, which has found a way to successfully provide quality care for 105 years. To acknowledge this milestone, the Hospital has planned approximately seven months of activities, ranging from the 105th anniversary of the signing of the charter (August 4, 1913) until the official opening of the hospital (March 4, 1914). Here is a smattering of what’s planned:
Garden Party and On-Line Auction
Events kick off on August 4th with a garden party – enjoying the sunshine and flowers in the beautiful spaces on the Hospital campus. Running from 1 to 4 pm, the event will feature tasty food and relaxing music, along with a chance to tour the Hospital’s Childbirth Center. Also, the garden party serves as the kick-off to the on-line benefit auction – an opportunity to receive some great deals on exciting items while supporting the Childbirth Center renovation project (read more about the project on page 2). Even if you can’t make the event, you can still support the project by visiting its special web page BiddingforGood.com at to peruse the items. The auction will close on August 19th at 8 pm, so please, check it out!
Springfield Hospital is working closely with the Springfield Art and Historical Society to host a “Springfield in 1913” presentation, which will highlight what the community was like in the year that the Hospital was formed. The event will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, August 19th at the Nolin Murray Center in Springfield. More information on this particular event will follow in the local newspapers.
On September 20, Springfield Hospital will be hosting its 18th Annual Springfield Hospital Challenge golf tournament at Okemo Valley Golf Club in Ludlow, VT. This fun event will also be raising money specifically for the Childbirth Center Renovation project. Tee off is at 12:30 pm. The cost is $150 per person to play, and lunch and dinner are included. And if you are business owner, sponsors are also needed. Hole sponsorship with all the corresponding publicity is $500. Other sponsorship opportunities also exist. The registration brochure will be mailed soon. Please contact Larry Kraft at email@example.com to sign up to play, or to be a sponsor. New this year: register online to play!
Springfield Hospital is working with Nina Jamison-Director of Exhibitions for the Great Hall Public Art Showcase, to plan the next art show in that grand space. Because of the Hospital’s significant anniversary, we are sponsoring the show, which will have works by 12 select artists including Natalie Blake, Karen Deets, Robert DuGrenier, Pat Musick, Robert O’Brien, and Cai X, to name a few, to highlight the theme of HEALING: The Transformative Imagery of ART. Famous nurse Florence Nightingale once said, “Variety of form and color in the object presented to patients are an actual means of recovery.” We are taking this idea to the next level with this show!
In addition to the professional artists, there will be work displayed by Hospital/SMCS employees.
The opening event will be held on September 27 from 5:30 to 7:00 p m. at the Great Hall. We hope you will join us!
